help with pattern 1208A

Is the top of the dress Simplicity pattern 1208 A supposed to have interfacing? Directions mention facing but no other notice. Not sure how sleeveless armholes and neck are finished either. No facings were noted for that. Can you please advise as I would like the dress to look nice for my young granddaughter?

Hello Brenda,

Thank you for connecting with me here at Sew Stitch Learn.

Firstly I would like to mention, I have not used this particular pattern for a little girl's dress, however, I have made many others in this similar style.

Typically you would not need interfacing for the bodice of a dress like this one if you were to fully line the bodice.

As well, if you were to use bias binding, you would not need interfacing. However, if you were to use facing to finish the sleeves and neck, I would use interfacing on the facing pieces for stability/structure.

Based on my knowledge of sewing a style like this dress, I would fully line the bodice, as I like to have the inside of the garment look neat and tidy.

I find it strange that no instructions for finishing the sleeveless option are offered. You could create your own facings, or you could use bias binding to finish the neck and sleeves, or as I mentioned above, you could finish the seams by lining the front bodice.

Below, I am sending links to three very good sewing websites to help you with these options.

1.) Here is a tutorial for creating your own facing.

2.) Here is a tutorial for using bias binding to finish sleeves and neckline.

3.) Here is a tutorial for lining the bodice.
