Sailor Moon Costume

Sailor Moon Costume? Some of you may remember the popular Japanese fantasy cartoon that ran for about 6 years in North America. The characters make great costume ideas.

Cosplay costumes have a large cult following and make great costumes for Halloween, or any costume party through out the year.

When my daughter's friend asked me to make a Sailor Moon Costume for her, I wasn't sure where to start.

I couldn't find a sewing pattern for this specific costume, so I had to be creative...not so hard...in fact it was a lot of fun.

Making the Costume

Here are the instructions for how I made the costume.

What You Need:

Fabric I used:

Note: The amount of fabric will depend on how large you need your costume and the pattern will advise you on the back.

• Sewing machine
• Thread in all the colors you choose for fabric.
• Sharp scissors
• Pins
• Measuring Tape (seamstress)
  
• Vest: White Satin
• Skirt on body suit: Electric Blue Satin
• Body Suit: White Spandex
• Bows: Red Satin
• Sewing Patterns: Simplicity 2478 and Kwik Sew 3502 (see below)
  

I used two sewing patterns for this homemade costume, and for the bows, I made my own. Go to how to make a bow .

For the vest I used the sleeveless view of this Simplicity Pattern.

For the body suit I used the short sleeve view. Click the photo to see the pattern in full, right from the website.

Both patterns have easy to follow directions. You can see that I used blue satin for the skirt and for the body suit I used white spandex with 4 way stretch.

The Accessories

The Gloves

For the white gloves Lexy is wearing in the photo, you can purchase from many novelty shops in the local malls. Or click the photo and shop online.

The Boots

• The red go go boots may be harder to find in the a retail store.
  
• If you don't have a pair of go go boots shopping online can save a head ache trying to find them.
  
• Leave yourself enough time before your party to make sure your online order arrives on time.

The Wig
