Sewing Pajama Bloomers For Girls Pajama Bottoms

Pajama bloomers for girls pajamas can be plain and simple or you can embellish them the way you like. Here is how.

Bloomers can be for big girls pajamas as well as little girls pajamas.

The fabric you choose and what embellishments you use are what makes your sewing projects unique.

So use your imagination and make your bloomers the way you like.

Here are some bloomers made for my friend's 9 year old daughter.

Pajama Bloomers Step by Step

I used a Butterick 4383. for these bloomers. The pattern is out of stock, however you can still purchase it from their website. Click the link to see how.

Start by cutting out your bloomers. Make sure you mark your pattern according to the pattern directions.

Remove the pattern from your fabric and separate the pieces. With right sides of the fabric together, place one front and one back at the crotch and pin together. You will have two front and back pieces sewn together. Press your seams flat.

Now again with right sides together, pin the two pieces together and stitch the center seam.

Press the center seam flat.

With right sides together pin the side seams and stitch. Press the seam flat.

To make the contrasting trim. I cut two strips of fabric the same circumference as the leg openings. The strips are 2 1/2" wide. Fold a 1/4" and press, then fold 1/4" again and press again. No with right sides together, stitch the ends of the strip together to make a circle.

With the right side of the strip and the wrong side (inside of leg opening) together, pin the having the raw edges even. Stitch a 1/4" seam.

Fold the strip to the outside of the bloomers. Press flat. Stitch the contrasting strip to the bloomers to secure the strip.

Cut a 1'4" wide elastic at a length that is comfortable. Stitch the ends of the elastic to make a circle.

Then mark the elastic into quarters and pin to the inside of the bloomers, one inch from the edge. Using a zig zag stitch stitch elastic evenly.

I chose to use a draw string instead of elastic for the waist. You can use one or the other, or both, it is your choice.

Cut a 1" wide piece of ribbon the same length as the circumference as the bloomers at the waist. Press about a 1/2" at both ends of the ribbon. Place the end of the ribbon at the center front seam and pin all the way around until you have the other end of the ribbon meeting in the center. Stitch close to each edge of ribbon securing to the bloomers.

Fold the extra one inch over to the inside of the pajama bloomers and stitch to secure to the inside.

Feed another piece of ribbon or cording, cut in a desired length through the casing. If you choose elastic, cut a 1/2" wide piece of elastic, the desired length (your waist measurement). Feed the elastic through the casing you have just made. Stitch the ends of the elastic together, once you have fed all the elastic through the casing. Do the same with a draw-string if you choose.
