Sewing Girls Pajamas
Girls pajamas don't have to be plain, unless of course that is what you want. Here is a set of baby doll girls pajamas made for my friend's 9-year-old daughter.

My daughter's are a little older now, so it was a pleasure to add the ruffles and bows. You of course can make your girls pjs as simple or as embellished as you like.
Baby Doll Pajamas Step by Step
The baby doll pjs in the photo were made using Mccalls pattern 5510.. for the top and Butterick 4383. for the bloomers. These patterns are out of print, but you can still purchase them from the websites. Just click the links
This pattern is very easy. Follow the pattern directions to reach the point of the nearly finished top you see below.

Making The RufflesTo make the ruffles for the bottom of the baby dolls, measure the total circumference of the bottom of the skirt. You will need to cut 2 1/2" wide strips that will be double the total amount of the circumference of the skirt. For example if the bottom of the skirt is 62 inches in total circumference, you will need enough strips to total 124 inches. For a quick tutorial about ruffles and gathers leave girls pajamas and click here.
Fold the bottom of the strip 1/4" then press and fold again to make the hem. Your strip will now be 2" wide.
For the second layer of ruffles, do the same as above. This time fold your strips in half and press. The strip will be 1 1/4" wide.
After you have gathered the two strips, place the 1 1/4" strip on top of the 2" strip and pin together.
Pin the ruffles to the bottom of the skirt, with right sides together and raw edges even stitch 1/4" seam.
This is how it looks. You can of course change the width of the ruffles to suit your taste, but the concept is the same.

Trims and Embellishments
Trims and embellishments are a great way to personalized your sewing projects. Sewing trims and embellishments I simply tied a bow with 3/8" wide ribbon. With my zig zag stitch on my sewing machine, I tacked the bows in place. Using some beads I already had, I stitch by hand, 3 beads in the middle of the bow and that is it. (Sorry for the foggy photos, I will work on that)
